Alion 2019

Alión 2019 is a polished and powerful Ribera del Duero red from Bodegas Alión, the sister project of the iconic Vega Sicilia. Made from selected parcels and old-vine Tinto Fino, it combines impressive concentration with a more sensual, elegant style than you might expect from such a serious wine. With its low yields, careful oak aging, and strong cellaring potential, this is a modern Spanish classic built to develop beautifully over time.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Alión 2019 shows a deep, intense colour that hints at its concentration. The nose is expressive and refined, with dark berries, black cherry, plum, and subtle notes of cocoa, spice, and well-integrated toast from new oak. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated yet balanced, with ripe fruit framed by firm tannins and a fresh backbone. The wine shows both power and finesse, finishing long and smooth with a sensual, elegant edge. Thanks to its structure and depth, Alión 2019 has excellent aging potential and can evolve for up to 20 years from the vintage.

Viininvalmistus
Alión comes from selected vineyard parcels in Ribera del Duero, where the continental climate and high-altitude vineyards help create wines with intensity, freshness, and structure. The wine is made from Tinto Fino, the local name for Tempranillo, sourced from vines aged around 25 to 30 years. Harvest takes place earlier than for Vega Sicilia’s flagship wines, and the wine is then aged for 16 months in new oak barrels to build complexity and polish.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that pairs naturally with rich dishes such as grilled ribeye, roasted lamb, game, beef stew, or mature hard cheeses. It also works beautifully with dishes featuring mushrooms, truffle, or slow-cooked meats. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open up fully.
