Blank Canvas Reed Vineyard Chardonnay 2023

Blank Canvas Reed Vineyard Chardonnay 2023 is a striking example of New Zealand Chardonnay at its most refined and expressive. Grown in Marlborough’s Reed Vineyard, it combines elegance, minerality and impressive depth, with a character shaped by stony, clay-rich soils and careful oak maturation. A wine that has already earned a reputation as a critic’s favourite, it stands out for both precision and power.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a bright, polished presence with a sense of concentration and clarity. The nose opens with lemon zest, white peach and grapefruit, layered with hazelnut, toast, oyster shell and a distinct smoky, struck-match note that adds complexity and tension. On the palate, it is generous and mouth-filling, yet remains beautifully dry and finely balanced. The fruit is supported by a clear mineral line and subtle oak influence, giving the wine both texture and length. The finish is long, refined and persistent, with the structure to develop further over the next few years.

Viininvalmistus
Reed Vineyard in Marlborough sits on stony soils with a notable clay content, a combination that helps Chardonnay vines thrive while contributing both mineral drive and textural richness. The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand to ensure only the best fruit reached the winery. After pressing and fermentation, the wine was matured by winemaker Matt Thomsen in used oak barrels, allowing the fruit to remain central while gaining additional complexity and depth.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, grilled lobster, seared scallops, creamy pasta dishes and rich fish such as turbot or cod with beurre blanc. It also works well with poultry served with mushroom or truffle sauces, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and while decanting is not essential, a short aeration can help open up its layers if enjoyed young.
