Arnot-Roberts California Red Wine 2021

Arnot Roberts’ 2021 California Red Wine is a powerful, deeply mineral-driven Cabernet-based blend sourced from the steep slopes of Clajeux Vineyard in Sonoma County’s Chalk Hill. Built from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, it combines concentration, precision, and a distinctly savory edge, while the site’s rocky hillside origins give the wine both tension and length. The vineyard was planted around 20 years ago and farmed organically, adding to the wine’s sense of authenticity and place.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a dark, intense red wine with a polished, structured profile. The nose opens with dark fruit, cranberry, cedar, gingerbread, dried spices, and a subtle pencil-like mineral note. The palate echoes the aromatics with layers of black fruit, game, smoke, and grilled spices, supported by a long, straight, and focused finish. The wine already has some age behind it, but its structure suggests it can continue to develop gracefully over the coming years, gaining even more nuance and complexity.

Viininvalmistus
Clajeux Vineyard sits on a steep hillside in Sonoma County’s Chalk Hill area, where the rocky soils and elevated position help shape the wine’s mineral character and concentrated fruit. The vineyard is organically farmed, and for the 2021 vintage Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts used 30% whole clusters and matured the wine in 30% new oak barrels, a combination that adds structure, aromatic lift, and subtle spice to the finished wine.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, venison, lamb, game birds, and richly flavored dishes with herbs or smoke. It will also work well with mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking it young or to allow its layered aromatics to fully open.
