Château Batailley 2019 Imperial

Château Batailley 2019 Imperial is a classic Pauillac from one of the Médoc’s oldest and most respected estates, bottled in an impressive large-format format that makes it ideal for cellaring or special occasions. As a 5th Growth Bordeaux, it combines historical pedigree, traditional Left Bank structure, and the depth and precision expected from one of the appellation’s benchmark names. The estate’s name itself recalls the historic Battle of 1453, adding a layer of heritage to an already distinguished wine.

In the glass, the 2019 Château Batailley shows a deep, concentrated ruby color that hints at its power and longevity. The nose is expressive and refined, unfolding with cassis, blackberry, graphite, licorice, tobacco leaf, and a subtle earthy undertone of loamy soil. The palate is medium to full-bodied, fleshy yet focused, with ripe black fruit framed by lively acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Notes of black pepper, graphite, and dark spice carry through to a long, composed finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and the Imperial format will only slow its evolution further, rewarding patient collectors over many years.

Viininvalmistus
Château Batailley is sourced from 57 hectares of vineyard in Pauillac, where the soils are typical of the appellation: a mix of sand, gravel, and clay that favors Cabernet Sauvignon and gives the wines their classic structure and lift. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc, reflecting the traditional Left Bank blend. While detailed vinification methods are not provided here, the estate is known for its experienced and disciplined winemaking approach, aimed at preserving purity, balance, and age-worthy tannin.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or rich dishes with mushrooms and truffle. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine open up and soften its structure.
