Sarget de Gruaud Larose 2019 is the second wine of the esteemed 2nd Growth Château Gruaud Larose in Saint-Julien, offering an accessible glimpse of one of Bordeaux’s most respected Left Bank estates. Made from younger vines and select parcels reserved from the grand vin, it delivers genuine class, classic structure, and the pedigree of a historic Saint-Julien château—without the long wait.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep, vibrant ruby-black colour, hinting at its generous fruit and firm backbone. The nose opens with ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum, layered with cedar, dried herbs, and a subtle pencil shaving note that gives it a distinctly Bordeaux character. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied and beautifully composed, with silky tannins, lively freshness, and a core of juicy dark fruit wrapped in gentle oak spice. The blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, creating a balanced, polished style that is enjoyable now with aeration, while still offering the structure to develop gracefully over the next several years.

Sarget de Gruaud Larose comes from the Saint-Julien appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravelly soils and a temperate Atlantic-influenced climate favor Cabernet Sauvignon-driven wines with freshness and precision. The wine is produced from younger vines and parcels not selected for the grand vin, and it is aged in French oak barrels to add complexity and texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a versatile Bordeaux that pairs well with roast lamb, grilled beef, duck breast, mushroom dishes, and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking now, especially to let the wine open up and soften its tannins.
