Château Latour 1996

Château Latour 1996 is a benchmark Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, offering the kind of depth, structure, and longevity that collectors look for. Crafted from a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend, it captures the power of the Left Bank in a vintage that delivered exceptional concentration for later-harvested Cabernet in the Médoc. Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a medium-to-deep garnet hue, still remarkably youthful for its age. The nose is intensely earthy and complex, with meaty, gamey undertones layered over notes of blueberry preserves, crème de cassis, and pencil shavings. On the palate, it is full-bodied, concentrated, and muscular, with ripe fruit framed by a firm, grainy backbone that gives the wine impressive tension and drive. The finish is long and persistent, and the wine still has plenty of youthful fruit at its core, suggesting strong aging potential for many more years to come.

Viininvalmistus
Château Latour’s vineyards lie on an exceptional Pauillac terroir of deep gravel and clay, topped with large rounded stones that store heat well into the evening. The estate is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and by 2015 the entire vineyard had been converted to organic farming, with horses used for plowing in some areas. The 1996 vintage benefited from a hot, dry August and a glorious early October, allowing later-harvested Cabernet to reach excellent ripeness; the wine was vinified at the estate’s then-new vat room, completed just before harvest.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for classic, richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, beef ribeye, venison, or duck breast with earthy accompaniments like mushrooms or truffle. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended to allow the wine to open and reveal its full aromatic complexity.

It was classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, placing it among the elite of the Médoc, and it has long been regarded as one of the region’s most reliable and age-worthy producers. Since 1993, the estate has been owned by François Pinault, and in recent years it has continued to strengthen its reputation through a more environmentally conscious approach to viticulture.
