Château Lynch-Bages 2016

Château Lynch-Bages 2016 is a powerful yet finely balanced Pauillac, showing exactly why this historic fifth-growth estate is regarded as one of Bordeaux’s most reliable names. Built on a classic Cabernet Sauvignon backbone, with Merlot adding depth and richness, it combines intensity, freshness, and structure in a style made for the long haul.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is deeply coloured and almost opaque, hinting at its concentration from the outset. The nose is layered and expressive, opening slowly to reveal black fruit, floral notes, and a subtle mineral edge reminiscent of crushed limestone, all lifted by remarkable freshness. On the palate, it is dense and tannic, but the tannins are finely woven and never feel heavy. Dark berries, cassis, and ripe plum are wrapped in a vibrant line of acidity, giving the wine energy as well as power. This is a wine with serious aging potential and will continue to develop beautifully over at least the next decade and beyond.

Viininvalmistus
The vineyards of Lynch-Bages are located on the Bages plateau just southwest of Pauillac, where the gravelly terroir is particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate spans around 100 hectares, divided into numerous parcels, and the grapes are harvested by hand before being carefully sorted and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured for 15 to 18 months in up to 75% new French oak, depending on the vintage.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for rich, flavorful dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, grilled ribeye, venison, or slow-braised short ribs. It also works well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1 to 2 hours, especially in its youth, to allow the wine’s full aromatic complexity and structure to open up.

Château Lynch-Bages has been under the ownership of the Cazes family since 1939, when Jean-Charles Cazes began the remarkable revival of an estate that had fallen into decline. His commitment restored the château to the standard expected of its 1855 classification, and today Lynch-Bages remains one of the most respected properties in Pauillac. It is known not only for consistency and quality, but also for producing wines with both classic character and impressive aging capacity.
