Château Margaux 1985

Château Margaux 1985 is a classic Bordeaux from one of the Médoc’s most celebrated First Growth estates, showing the house style at its most graceful. Coming from an unusually even and warm growing season, it is a vintage that highlights finesse over sheer power, with the elegance, perfume, and balance that have made Château Margaux legendary.

The wine shows a beautiful brick-red colour with a translucent rim, reflecting both maturity and lasting vitality. On the nose, it is unmistakably Margaux: violets, dried rose petals, blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, and a subtle, evolved savoury note that adds depth and complexity. The palate is silky and almost weightless in texture, yet remarkably structured beneath the surface, with fruit, acidity, and tannin in perfect harmony. This is a wine defined by poise and refinement rather than muscle, and while it is at a superb stage now, it still has the potential to gain further tertiary nuance over time.

The 1985 vintage in Bordeaux benefitted from a warm, remarkably even season without major extremes, allowing grapes to ripen steadily and harmoniously. At Château Margaux, the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc reflects the estate’s classic approach, with careful harvesting and precise cellar work aimed at preserving fragrance, freshness, and the estate’s signature elegance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, truffle-based dishes, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting gently if the bottle has been resting for a long time, though older bottles like this should be handled carefully to preserve their delicate aromatics.
