La Dame de Montrose is the elegant second wine of Château Montrose, offered here as a rare mixed wooden case containing 2014, 2015 and 2016, two bottles of each. Sourced from younger vines and made with the same exacting standards as the Grand Vin, it captures the power and pedigree of Saint-Estèphe in a more approachable style. With its second-growth heritage and strong critical reputation, this is a refined introduction to one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, La Dame de Montrose typically shows a deep garnet to ruby-purple color, reflecting its concentration and Cabernet-led structure. The bouquet is expressive and layered, with notes of blackcurrant, dark cherry, violet, crushed earth, graphite, and subtle spice, while the warmer and more Merlot-driven years bring added plum, blueberry, and a touch of chocolate.
On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a balanced line of freshness that is very much in keeping with Saint-Estèphe. The 2014 leans more linear and tightly wound, the 2015 is richer and more supple, and the 2016 tends toward elegance and mineral precision. All three have the structure to age well for several years, with the 2016 and 2015 likely showing especially well with further bottle development.
Viininvalmistus
La Dame de Montrose comes from Château Montrose’s historic 95-hectare estate in Saint-Estèphe, where the vineyards form a single continuous block around the château—something quite rare in Bordeaux. The terroir is ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, with warm gravelly soils over clay that help both drainage and water retention, while the blend is rounded out by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, followed by double sorting, gentle pressing, and a long, temperature-controlled maceration of around 25 days before aging for about 12 months in French oak, with roughly 30% new barrels.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a classic Bordeaux for the table, and it pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, venison, or slow-cooked dishes with mushrooms and herbs. It also works very well with aged hard cheeses and truffle-rich recipes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant the 2014 and 2015 for about 1 hour if you want to open up their aromatics; the 2016 can also benefit from a short decant, especially when enjoyed young.
Tuottaja
Château Montrose is one of the great names of Saint-Estèphe and sits firmly among the top estates of the appellation, alongside Cos d’Estournel. The château traces its roots back to the late 18th century and was classified as a 2nd Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, a status it has more than justified through its consistently powerful, age-worthy wines. Today, the estate is also recognized for its commitment to sustainability, including major investments in renewable energy and careful parcel-by-parcel vineyard management.
