Across this trio of vintages, Pichon Baron shows the classic Pauillac profile: deep garnet in colour, with aromas of blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, truffle, spice, and ripe dark fruit. The 2014 is structured and precise with blackberry and mineral freshness; the 2015 is more perfumed and generous, offering red and black fruits, cocoa, spice, and finely woven tannins; and the 2016 combines ripe cassis, black plum, herbs, sandalwood, and a distinctly mineral edge. On the palate, all three wines are medium to full-bodied, layered, and firmly built, with excellent freshness and a long, composed finish. The tannins are polished but persistent, supporting impressive aging potential: the 2014 will continue to develop beautifully over the coming years, while the 2015 and 2016 are built for long cellaring and should evolve gracefully for decades.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron is located in Pauillac, one of the most prestigious appellations in Bordeaux, where gravelly soils and the proximity of the Gironde help Cabernet Sauvignon and its supporting varieties ripen with precision and balance. The estate works with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard, adapting practices to each vintage’s weather conditions, and all grapes are harvested by hand with careful parcel-by-parcel and cluster-by-cluster selection. In the cellar, the fruit undergoes a controlled maceration of three to four weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation and élevage in oak barrels, with blending carried out only after tasting many individual lots to achieve the final expression of the Grand Vin.

Best served with classic Bordeaux-friendly dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game, mushroom risotto, or mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting the wines, especially the 2015 and 2016, for a couple of hours before serving to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron dates back to 1689 and became one of Pauillac’s great names after the Pichon family estate was divided in the mid-19th century. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, the château experienced a major revival in the 1980s after being acquired by AXA, with strong investment in the vineyard and winery under Jean-Michel Cazes. Today, Pichon Baron is regarded as one of Bordeaux’s benchmark estates, renowned for its precision, consistency, and wines that can rival far higher classified properties.
