Château Troplong Mondot 2014

Château Troplong Mondot 2014 is a standout Saint-Émilion red from one of the Right Bank’s most prestigious estates. Produced from a Merlot-led blend with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it reflects the depth, precision, and opulence that have made Troplong Mondot one of Bordeaux’s great success stories. With roots dating back to 1745, the château combines historical stature with a modern pursuit of quality.

In the glass, the wine typically shows a deep ruby to garnet colour, with the concentration and richness expected from a top Saint-Émilion. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark plum, blackberry, black cherry, and hints of violets, cocoa, cedar, and warm spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with ripe Merlot giving generous fruit and texture, while Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon add lift, structure, and finesse. The finish is long and polished, with ripe tannins and a refined mineral edge. The 2014 vintage should already offer considerable pleasure, while still having the balance to age gracefully for many more years.

Viininvalmistus
Château Troplong Mondot sits on the limestone and clay slopes above Saint-Émilion, where the elevated position and varied soils help create wines with both power and freshness. The estate spans 43 hectares and has increasingly focused on biodiversity and sustainable vineyard practices, including the use of horses for ploughing in some parcels. Fruit is carefully harvested parcel by parcel, with optical sorting used in the cellar to ensure only the best grapes are selected. Since 2009, part of the harvest has undergone micro-fermentation in 600-litre barrels, giving the team more precision when assembling the final wine.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, or rich mushroom dishes. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open and show its full aromatic range.

Founded in 1745, Château Troplong Mondot has long been one of Saint-Émilion’s most notable estates and is among the largest classified growths in the appellation. The Valette family played a major role in its transformation during the 20th century, with Christine Valette and Xavier Pariente especially instrumental in elevating the château to the top tier of Bordeaux. Their work was rewarded when the estate was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 2006, a status it retained in the 2012 revision. Today, Troplong Mondot is recognised not only for its wines, but also for its strong commitment to quality, sustainability, and hospitality.
