Colgin Cariad Napa Valley 2013 is one of those rare Napa reds that feels both opulent and impeccably composed. Built from fruit sourced from the legendary David Abreu vineyards and crafted under winemaker Allison Tauziet, it is a Cabernet-led blend with extraordinary depth, precision, and aging potential. The name Cariad means “love” in Welsh, which feels entirely fitting for a wine of this caliber and pedigree.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Cariad shows a deep garnet color that hints at its richness and concentration. The bouquet is highly expressive, with layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, cocoa, tar, licorice, violets, and a touch of pencil lead, all wrapped in a subtle earthy, scorched-stone nuance. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, generous, and finely structured, with plush dark fruit balanced by beautifully integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. It has the power and authority you’d expect from a top Napa Valley Bordeaux blend, but also an elegant, lifted quality that keeps everything in balance. While already impressive, it has the structure to evolve gracefully for 25–30 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
Cariad is sourced from carefully tended Napa Valley vineyards associated with David Abreu, whose sites are known for meticulous farming and exceptional fruit quality. The vineyards benefit from a combination of warm California sunshine and cool-climate influence, with volcanic, mineral-rich soils that help give the wine its tension and aromatic complexity. After fermentation, the wine is aged for two years in 100% new oak barrels, a regimen that adds polish, texture, and depth without overpowering the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb rack, braised short ribs, venison, or roasted duck with dark berry sauce. It also works beautifully with truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C; decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if opened young, both to soften the tannins and allow the aromatics to fully unfold.
