Colgin Cariad 2016 is one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after Bordeaux-inspired reds, blending the power of Cabernet Sauvignon and the elegance of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot from David Abreu’s legendary vineyard sites. The result is a wine of remarkable depth, precision, and finesse—an opulent yet beautifully poised red that speaks to the very top tier of California winemaking. Named Cariad, meaning “love” in Welsh, it’s a fitting tribute to a wine crafted with extraordinary care and ambition.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Cariad shows a deep garnet-purple hue that hints at its concentration and structure. The bouquet is layered and expressive, unfolding with blackcurrant, blackberry, preserved plum, cacao, cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, iron ore, crushed rock, licorice, and floral nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, muscular, and intensely flavored, yet remains polished and refined. The tannins are firm but seamlessly integrated, providing a strong framework for the wine’s abundant dark fruit, mineral depth, and savory complexity. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, leaving a vivid impression of freshness, power, and finesse. Built for the cellar, this is a wine with outstanding aging potential and should evolve gracefully for 25–30 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
Cariad is sourced from a combination of prestigious vineyard sites associated with David Abreu in Napa Valley, where volcanic, mineral-rich soils and a combination of warm sunshine and cooling influences help produce fruit with both ripeness and freshness. The 2016 blend is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Petit Verdot. After fermentation, the wine was matured for two years in 100% new oak barrels, adding structure, spice, and further depth to the final blend.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a powerful wine that pairs beautifully with equally rich dishes such as dry-aged ribeye, grilled lamb, braised short ribs, venison, or beef tenderloin with truffle sauce. It also works well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
