Colgin IX Estate Napa Valley Syrah 2016

Colgin IX Estate Napa Valley Syrah 2016 is a powerful, finely tuned expression of 100% Syrah from one of Napa Valley’s most coveted hillside sites. Grown on Colgin’s own Pritchard Hill estate and planted with top Rhône selections inspired by Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage, it combines Californian richness with a distinctly Old World sense of structure and perfume. This is a wine that speaks to both the pedigree of the vineyard and the meticulous hand of one of Napa’s most celebrated producers.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark purple-black colour that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose is complex and layered, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry preserves, plum, pencil shavings, smoked meat, licorice, mandarin peel, violet, orange blossom, Sichuan pepper, tar, and a subtle wild sage note. The palate is full-bodied, plush, and deeply flavored, yet surprisingly graceful and lifted. Dark fruit and savory spice drive the wine, balanced by fine texture, freshness, and a long, persistent finish. While immediately impressive, it has the structure and concentration to age beautifully for many years, with a drinking window that can comfortably extend over the next decade or more.

Viininvalmistus
This 100% Syrah comes from Colgin’s IX Estate on Pritchard Hill, a high-elevation site above Lake Hennessy in Napa Valley known for its dramatic exposure and excellent ripening conditions. The estate’s hillside terroir contributes depth, intensity, and aromatic complexity, while the selected Rhône-style clones bring finesse and varietal character. Fermentation is carried out at around 20°C, followed by two years of maturation in brand-new oak barrels, a regimen that builds structure, richness, and polish while preserving the wine’s aromatic lift.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, venison, braised short ribs, roast duck, or richly seasoned dishes featuring pepper, herbs, and smoky elements. It also works well with mushroom-based dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to help the wine fully open and reveal its aromatic detail.
