Colgin IX Estate Red 2016 is one of Napa Valley’s great luxury reds, crafted from a superb hillside estate on Pritchard Hill and built in the classic Bordeaux style. With its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it combines striking power with remarkable finesse, and it has already earned top praise from the world’s leading critics. Makuprofiili
The wine pours a deep garnet-purple, hinting at its concentration and depth from the very first glance. Aromatically, it is layered and expressive, unfolding with blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, smoked meat, cigar box, dried herbs, lavender and a subtle graphite-like earthiness. On the palate, it is full-bodied and intensely flavored, yet remarkably poised and seamless, with fine-grained tannins and impressive freshness keeping the richness in check. The finish is long, perfumed and beautifully detailed, suggesting a wine that will develop beautifully over the next several years and continue to evolve for decades. Ann Colgin has noted that the wine gains even more after 4–5 years in bottle, and its aging potential is excellent.

Viininvalmistus
The 2016 IX Estate Red comes from Colgin’s high-elevation estate vineyard in the Pritchard Hill area of Napa Valley, where the hillside setting and cooler mountain influences help create wines of concentration, structure and aromatic complexity. The fruit was harvested with careful pacing to capture peak ripeness and freshness in a vintage that offered both harmony and added depth. Winemaker Allison Tauziet followed traditional methods, and after fermentation the wine aged for around two years in 100% new oak barrels before bottling, giving it polish, structure and added complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural partner for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, beef short ribs or duck with dark fruit sauces. Mature hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes will also complement its depth and aromatic complexity. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the wine’s layers to fully open.
