Comtes Lafon’s Clos de la Barre 2003 is a benchmark Meursault from one of Burgundy’s most respected estates, offering the depth and precision that have made the domaine famous. Crafted from Chardonnay in a warm vintage, it combines richness, texture, and mineral tension in a style that reflects both the power of the year and the refinement of the producer. As a village monopole with strong historical roots, Clos de la Barre captures the unmistakable character of Meursault in an especially expressive vintage.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a golden, mature hue that hints at its evolution. The nose is layered and generous, with aromas of white pepper, spice, lilies, butter, candied pear, spiced apple, and honeyed mineral notes. On the palate it is harmonious, medium-bodied, and quietly powerful, with a creamy, toasty texture balanced by a subtle sense of freshness and limestone-driven finesse. The 2003 vintage has brought added ripeness and roundness, making this a wine that leans toward opulence rather than restraint. While its projected peak was years ago, well-stored bottles can still offer complexity, secondary aromas, and a deeply satisfying, mature Meursault profile.

Clos de la Barre is a prized site in Meursault, Burgundy, where limestone-rich soils and a favorable vineyard exposure help produce Chardonnay with both breadth and definition. Comtes Lafon is known for meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and a strong respect for terroir, with the estate practicing organic viticulture and biodynamic principles. Fermentation and élevage are handled with great care to preserve site character while building texture, depth, and ageworthiness.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with shellfish, lobster, roasted chicken, creamy poultry dishes, veal, and mushroom-based recipes, as well as aged hard cheeses such as Comté. Serve it at around 10–12°C to show its full aromatic range and balance. Decanting is optional, but a short decant may help open the wine if the bottle has been well preserved and is still showing some reduction.

Domaine des Comtes Lafon is one of Meursault’s most celebrated estates, founded in 1869 by the Boch family and later renamed after the marriage of Marie Boch to Comte Jules Lafon. Under Dominique Lafon, who took over in 1984, the domaine strengthened its reputation as a standard-bearer for world-class Burgundy, especially for white wines. With holdings across some of the region’s finest Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, the estate is widely regarded as one of the leading producers in Burgundy and a reference point for precision, intensity, and terroir expression.
