Domaine Henri Clerc Saint-Romain 'Vieilles Vignes' 2022 is a superb value white Burgundy that overdelivers on freshness, precision, and character. Sourced from some of the highest vineyards in Burgundy, this Chardonnay benefits from cool conditions and limestone-rich soils that bring a distinctly mineral edge and a style often compared to fine Chablis. Saint-Romain may still fly a little under the radar compared with nearby appellations like Saint-Aubin, but wines like this show exactly why it deserves more attention.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this 2022 Saint-Romain shows a bright, pale golden hue with a clear, youthful shine. The nose opens with flinty, chalky notes layered with citrus, pear, white flowers, and a touch of jasmine, giving it an elegant and lifted aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is crisp and energetic, with fresh orchard fruit, citrus zest, and a clean mineral line running through the finish. The acidity is lively and well integrated, making the wine feel both refreshing and structured. While enjoyable now for its purity and vibrancy, it should also develop added nuance over the next few years, gaining a little more roundness and complexity with bottle age.

Viininvalmistus
Saint-Romain sits at one of the highest elevations in Burgundy, and the vineyards here are shaped by cool temperatures and limestone soils that naturally favor freshness and minerality. For this cuvée, Eric Germain selected fruit from older vines, which typically contribute greater concentration and depth. The result is a wine that reflects both the site’s cool-climate precision and the extra intensity that comes from mature vines.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay is an excellent match for shellfish, grilled fish, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, and goat cheese, as well as vegetarian dishes with asparagus or mushrooms. Serve it chilled at around 10–12°C to preserve its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is not necessary, though a short time in the glass will help the wine open up beautifully.
