Dominio de Pingus Flor de Pingus 2009 Magnum is one of Ribera del Duero’s most coveted value-driven reds, offering much of the character and pedigree of the flagship Pingus at a more approachable level. Made from old-vine Tempranillo sourced from select parcels near Barrosso and San Cristóbal, it combines depth, energy, and mineral finesse with the generosity that has made Peter Sisseck’s wines so highly regarded. In this magnum format, the 2009 vintage has extra room to evolve gracefully, making it especially appealing for collectors and serious wine lovers alike.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, Flor de Pingus 2009 shows a deep, youthful ruby-purple core, reflecting both its concentration and the vitality of the vintage. The nose opens with ripe plums, violets, and dark berries, layered with wild herbs, warm spice, and subtle toasted oak. There is a striking sense of freshness beneath the richness, giving the wine lift and definition.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful, yet more refined than overtly massive, with juicy black fruit, savory herbal notes, and a distinctly saline mineral edge. The oak adds warmth and spice rather than dominating the fruit, while the tannins remain polished and integrated. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now for its expressive fruit and texture, but the magnum format suggests excellent aging potential over the coming decade or more.
Viininvalmistus
The fruit for Flor de Pingus comes from partially leased vineyards near the Barrosso and San Cristóbal parcels, planted with older Tempranillo vines of around 60 years of age. These deep-rooted vines draw mineral character from the soils while also maintaining balance during the dry summer months, thanks to their extensive root systems and access to winter moisture. Harvesting is done with careful selection, and vinification includes some whole clusters alongside lightly crushed grapes, fermenting in 2,000-liter oak casks with minimal intervention. The wine is then aged for 14 months in a combination of roughly 30% new French oak and older French barrels previously used for Flor and Pingus, before bottling without fining or filtration.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled ribeye, venison, braised short ribs, or rich mushroom dishes with herbs and reduced sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged Manchego or other firm, nutty cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1 to 2 hours if opening young, as this will help the wine reveal its aromatic complexity and soften the tannins.
