Dominus Estate Othello 2018

Dominus Estate Othello 2018 is the more approachable expression from the historic Napanook vineyard, offering a refined take on Dominus’ Bordeaux-inspired style. Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it combines depth and precision with a silky, youthful charm that makes it especially attractive in its early years. As the third wine from Dominus, Othello carries the estate’s pedigree while presenting the terroir in a more open, immediately enjoyable way.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Othello 2018 shows an intense, vivid dark red-black colour. The nose is clean and polished, with layers of cherry, blackcurrant, mocha and a subtle touch of vanilla. On the palate, it is deep and full-bodied, yet beautifully balanced by silky tannins and a long, expressive finish. The wine has the structure to develop further in bottle, but its design is intentionally more accessible than Dominus or Napanook, making it pleasurable while still young. Its elegance and freshness suggest several years of positive ageing, during which the fruit and savoury notes will continue to integrate.

Viininvalmistus
Othello comes from the historic Napanook vineyard in Napa Valley, where the warm, dry microclimate is shaped by a distinctive terroir that has long been central to Dominus’ identity. The grapes are hand-harvested, with fruit from the sunny side of the vines picked a few days earlier than those from the shaded side to preserve balance and freshness. After harvesting, the bunches are sorted both manually and by optical sorting before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation, the wine is matured for 14 months in French oak barrels, allowing the fruit to remain bright while gaining subtle complexity and structure.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with classic red wine dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, ribeye steak, duck breast or mushroom-based dishes. It also works well with hard, aged cheeses. Serve at 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 30-60 minutes if drinking young to let the aromatics fully open and the tannins soften.
