In the glass, Ryan 2023 shows the kind of translucent, refined color typical of serious Pinot Noir, hinting at both delicacy and depth. The nose is lifted and layered, with rose petals, pomegranate, blood orange peel, and subtle notes of forest floor, tree resin, and a faint saline, seaweed-like edge that speaks to its coastal setting. On the palate, it opens with a medium-bodied frame and a tangy, dry line of acidity that carries fruit from blood orange into darker berries and black tea. The texture is deep and mineral-toned, with discreet oak supporting rather than shaping the wine, and the finish is long, focused, and gently bittersweet. While immediately engaging, it also has the structure to develop beautifully with a few years in bottle.

Viininvalmistus
This wine comes entirely from Dutton-Jentoft Vineyard, where 16-year-old Calera clone Pinot Noir grows on a south-facing ridge in the cool Russian River Valley. The elevated site and maritime air contribute freshness, precision, and aromatic complexity, while the steep slopes and careful hand farming help preserve fruit purity. The grapes were harvested manually on September 23 under optimal conditions, then spontaneously fermented and matured for 15 months in French barriques, 33% of them new, from Tonnelleries Mercurey and Millard.

Serve this Pinot Noir slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if opening it young to let the aromatics unfold. It pairs beautifully with roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, quail, or herb-roasted chicken, as well as dishes with earthy umami elements that echo its forest-floor character.
