E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2001 is one of the great single-vineyard Syrah wines from the northern Rhône, sourced exclusively from the Côte Brune sector of Côte-Rôtie. Built for power, depth, and longevity, it combines intense fruit, dark mineral character, and remarkable precision. As part of Guigal’s iconic “La La” trio, it has become a benchmark for the appellation and a reference point for collectible Rhône wines.

In the glass, La Landonne shows a deep black-ruby color that hints at its concentration. The nose is highly complex and expressive, with layers of blackcurrant, plum, graphite, tobacco, black olives, and smoky cured meat, gradually unfolding into notes of liquorice, herbs, and mineral dust with air and age.
The palate is dense and tightly structured, driven by ripe dark fruit, firm but polished tannins, and a vivid line of acidity that keeps the wine poised despite its richness. It finishes long and persistent, with lingering notes of black pepper, dark chocolate, and tobacco. The 2001 vintage is still evolving gracefully and has the balance and concentration to age further.
Viininvalmistus
La Landonne is made from 100% Syrah grown on the steep slopes of Côte Brune in Côte-Rôtie, where schist-rich soils and a warm, exposed site help produce wines of striking depth and structure. The grapes are hand-harvested, then undergo long maceration to maximize color, aroma, and tannic framework. After fermentation, the wine is matured for around 42 months in new French oak barrels, giving it additional complexity, polish, and aging potential.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for richly flavored dishes such as roasted lamb, venison, beef fillet, slow-braised short ribs, or game with earthy sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and dishes featuring black olives, herbs, or mushrooms. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for 1–2 hours to allow the wine’s structure and aromatic complexity to fully open.

The estate is especially renowned for its meticulously crafted single-vineyard wines from Côte-Rôtie, including La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne, often referred to as the legendary “La La” wines. Under the Guigal family, the producer has earned a global reputation for precision, consistency, and some of the region’s most collectible wines.
