Failla Haynes Vineyard Syrah 2019

Failla Haynes Vineyard Syrah 2019 is a striking, intensely flavored California Syrah from one of Napa Valley’s oldest vineyards, planted in 1967. Crafted by Ehren Jordan, whose Rhône background gives him a particularly fluent touch with Syrah, this is a wine that combines old-vine character, depth, and impressive complexity.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a beautiful deep, dark color that hints at its concentration. The nose is classically Syrah-driven, with layers of dark fruit, black pepper, smoked meat, sandalwood, and spice. The palate is bold and expressive, with dark berry fruit and pepper notes carrying through a long, savory finish. It already offers plenty of pleasure now, but it also has clear aging potential, developing further nuance and complexity over time.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from Haynes Vineyard, a historic Napa Valley site dating back to 1967, where the old vines and mature site contribute to the wine’s depth and concentration. Harvesting and sorting are done by hand, and fermentation takes place with whole clusters, adding structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, with 15% new oak, balancing the fruit with subtle spice and texture.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah is a natural match for grilled or roasted lamb, pepper steak, braised short ribs, game, or dishes with smoky, savory elements. It should be served slightly cool, ideally around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended if opening young, as it will help the wine unfold its full aromatic and structural depth.

Failla Wines was founded in 1998 by Ehren Jordan and his wife Anne-Marie, after years of hands-on experience in the wine trade and cellars of respected producers in California and the Rhône. Jordan’s background includes work with Joseph Phelps, time in the Rhône, and a successful run at Turley Wine Cellars, all of which shaped his restrained, site-focused style. Today, Failla is especially admired for its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah, and Jordan is widely respected for wines that are precise, characterful, and made without shortcuts.
