Galia Villages 2016

Galia Villages 2016 is a bold yet refined red from Castilla y León, offering a distinctive take on high-altitude Spanish winemaking. Crafted by Jérôme Bougnaud in collaboration with El Regajal, it draws character from old vines near and just beyond the boundaries of Ribera del Duero, giving the wine a rare balance of power, purity, and site-driven complexity.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Galia Villages 2016 shows an intense ruby color that hints at its concentration and freshness. The nose opens with violet, ripe cherry, floral notes, and an inviting thread of spice and eucalyptus, creating a fragrant and layered first impression. On the palate, it is full-bodied but beautifully composed, with a silky texture, polished tannins, and vibrant acidity keeping everything in check. Ripe red berries, pepper, clove, and a mineral edge carry through to a long, aromatic finish. While already expressive, it has the structure and balance to continue evolving gracefully over several years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from six small parcels planted with nearly century-old vines at 800 to 1,000 meters above sea level, on limestone clay and gravel soils that contribute freshness, tension, and mineral detail. Fruit is harvested carefully from vineyards in Ribera del Duero and nearby areas just outside the official boundary, then fermented with native yeasts using a combination of whole clusters and destemmed grapes, followed by a long maceration. The wine matures for 21 months in a mix of French barriques and larger foudres, with only about 15% new oak to preserve the clarity of the fruit and the expression of terroir.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs especially well with roast lamb, grilled beef, game birds, rich mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to let the aromatics and texture fully open.
