In the glass, the wine shows an opaque medium ruby color, still youthful in appearance despite its age. The nose is intensely aromatic and layered, with notes of black cherry, raspberry, violet, pepper, bitter chocolate, charred oak, and a subtle roasted character that adds further depth. On the palate, it is rich, dense, and full-bodied, with impressive concentration and a chewy, almost muscular texture. Dark chocolate, ripe dark fruit, and spice are supported by firm, dusty tannins and a long, persistent finish. Although it is already impressive, this is a wine built for the long haul and should continue to age beautifully for many years.

La Mouline comes from a prized single vineyard in Côte-Rôtie, where steep terraced slopes and a mix of schist and other rocky soils help produce low yields and exceptional concentration. The vineyard’s exposed position and old-vine Syrah contribute to the wine’s power, aromatic intensity, and structure. Harvesting is typically done by hand, and vinification follows the meticulous approach for which Guigal is known, with extended élevage in oak to build texture, polish, and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for rich, flavorful dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, venison, or game birds with a savory sauce. It also pairs well with truffle-inflected dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if opened now, to allow the wine to unfold fully.
