Guigal La Turque is one of the most coveted single-vineyard wines from Côte-Rôtie, a legendary bottling that captures both power and finesse in equal measure. Made by the Guigal family in the Northern Rhône, it has long been celebrated for its intensity, ageworthiness, and unmistakable sense of place. Praised by critics for evolving beautifully in bottle, it stands as one of the great benchmark Syrah-based wines of France.

In the glass, La Turque typically shows a deep, mature garnet core with fading ruby edges, reflecting both concentration and bottle age. The nose is often complex and layered, with blackberries, dark plums, violets, smoked meat, black pepper, leather, and earthy mineral notes unfolding over time. On the palate, it is full-bodied and deeply structured, with ripe dark fruit, savory spice, and the distinctive smoky, almost gamey character that Côte-Rôtie can deliver at its best. The tannins are usually firm but polished, supporting a long, elegant finish marked by mineral tension and warmth. This is a wine built for longevity and, in a strong vintage, can continue to develop nuance for decades.

La Turque comes from a prized single vineyard site in Côte-Rôtie, where steep terraced slopes and a combination of schist, mica, and silicate-rich soils create ideal conditions for Syrah. The vineyard’s exposure and dramatic hillside terroir help produce grapes with exceptional ripeness, concentration, and aromatic lift. Harvesting is typically done by hand due to the extreme slope, and the wine is vinified with meticulous attention to extraction, followed by élevage in oak to build structure, depth, and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that shines alongside richly flavored dishes such as beef tenderloin, roasted lamb, venison, duck breast, or slow-braised short ribs. It also pairs well with dishes featuring mushrooms, truffle, black olives, or smoky herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opened in youth; older bottles may benefit from a gentler, shorter decant to preserve their delicate aromatics.
