Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a superb introduction to one of Napa Valley’s most legendary Cabernet houses, showing the estate’s signature balance of freshness, structure and refinement. Crafted entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Only One Vineyard and Spring Valley Vineyard near St. Helena, it reflects a more classic, terroir-driven expression of Napa rather than an overtly opulent style. Rooted in the pioneering vision of Joe and Alice Heitz, this wine carries the heritage of one of the region’s true icons into a polished modern era.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, polished ruby-garnet color, hinting at both concentration and elegance. The nose is expressive and classically Cabernet, with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, blackberry, tobacco and a subtle lift of mint.
The palate is full-bodied and layered, with ripe dark fruit wrapped around savory, earthy accents and finely integrated oak. There is a sense of warmth and generosity in the mid-palate, yet the wine remains poised and fresh, echoing a mature Bordeaux style with a distinctly Napa Valley character. It already drinks beautifully, but its structure and balance suggest a long and rewarding aging potential.
Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from two prized sites near St. Helena, where Napa’s warm days and cooling influences help Cabernet Sauvignon develop full ripeness without losing freshness. After pressing and fermentation, the wine matured for four years in a mix of small and large oak barrels, using both new and seasoned wood, before spending an additional year in bottle prior to release. This extended élevage is central to the Heitz style, helping to build texture, complexity and the wine’s famously refined profile.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a natural match for grilled ribeye, slow-roasted lamb, braised short ribs, or aged hard cheeses. It also pairs well with dishes that have earthy depth, such as mushroom risotto or venison. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
