Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 Magnum is a striking Californian Chardonnay that consistently earns top ratings and disappears quickly from the market. Made from Shot Wente Clone fruit grown on Hudson’s Home Ranch and Henry Road Ranch, it combines impressive mineral drive, power, and beautifully balanced acidity with a level of complexity that invites comparisons to much pricier Burgundy.

In the glass, this Chardonnay shows the richness and depth you would expect from a serious Napa-style white, with a polished, luminous appearance. The bouquet opens with candied peach, ripe pear, almond croissant, light honey, and orange peel, while the palate layers in apple, stone fruit, mango, grilled pineapple, and meringue, finishing with touches of cocoa and spice. Despite its generosity, the wine remains firmly composed, with acidity that keeps everything in line and a finish that seems to go on and on. This is a Chardonnay with real aging potential, especially in magnum format, where its structure and balance should allow it to develop additional nuance over time.

The fruit comes from Hudson’s Home Ranch and Henry Road Ranch in California, where the vines must work hard in a climate and soil profile that naturally limits berry size but enhances concentration and minerality. The grapes are harvested manually, reflecting the producer’s hands-on approach and commitment to preserving quality from vine to bottle. In 2019, the juice was aged for 18 months in French oak, with 60% new barrels, resulting in a wine with depth, texture, and oak integration that supports rather than dominates the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with rich seafood dishes, roast chicken, lobster with butter, creamy pasta, and dishes featuring mushrooms or toasted nuts. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, to allow the aromatic complexity to shine. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open the wine if served young.
