Kongsgaard Syrah 2021

Kongsgaard Syrah 2021 is a standout Napa Valley Syrah from John and Alex Kongsgaard, widely regarded by critics as one of the finest expressions of the grape in the region. Sourced from the Kongsgaards’ parcel on the famed Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, it combines depth, precision, and extraordinary intensity in a wine that feels both powerful and highly refined.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a dark, almost inky color that hints at the concentration to come. The nose is strikingly layered, with blackcurrant, blackberry, blood orange, black pepper, smoked meat, liquorice, tar, and deep earthy tones creating a complex and seductive aromatic profile. The palate mirrors those aromas with remarkable force and clarity, led by dark fruit and smoky, savory notes of cured meat, then lifted by dried Provençal herbs and spice. The finish is long, persistent, and deeply satisfying, with the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over the next 20 years or more.

This Syrah comes from the Kongsgaards’ long-held parcel at Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, one of Napa Valley’s most respected cool-climate sites. The vineyard’s maritime influence and distinctive soils help shape a wine with both ripeness and freshness, while careful vineyard work and meticulous cellar practices allow the fruit to express maximum intensity and detail.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Serve this Syrah at around 16–18°C and consider decanting it for 1–2 hours, especially if opening it young. It pairs beautifully with rich, savory dishes such as grilled lamb, slow-roasted beef, venison, smoked meats, or hearty mushroom-based plates, as well as dishes with Provençal herbs and peppery seasoning.
