Kongsgaard Syrah 2019

Kongsgaard Syrah Hudson Vineyard 2019 is a remarkable Napa Valley Syrah from John and Alex Kongsgaard, widely regarded by critics as one of the finest examples of the grape in the region. Sourced from the family’s long-held parcel in the celebrated Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, it combines depth, intensity, and precision in a way that makes it feel genuinely special from the first sip.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Syrah shows an almost black, deeply saturated color that hints at its concentration. The nose is profoundly expressive, with layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, blood orange, black pepper, smoked meat, licorice, tar, and dark earth. The palate echoes the aromatic profile with striking clarity, led by dark fruit and savory, smoky meat notes, supported by dried Provençal herbs and a long, persistent finish. Powerful yet finely balanced, it is excellent now but has the structure and depth to age gracefully for at least 20 years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from Kongsgaard’s parcel within the renowned Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, a cool-climate Napa Valley site known for producing concentrated, characterful fruit. The family has worked this parcel for around two decades, and the results continue to improve as the vines mature. Beyond that, detailed vinification information is not provided here.

This is an ideal match for rich, savory dishes such as grilled lamb, braised short ribs, venison, or slow-roasted beef, as well as dishes with smoky or peppery elements. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and layered texture to open fully.
