Krug 2011 is a striking expression of a highly unusual Champagne vintage, shaped by a season of early warmth, sudden rain, and dramatic contrasts right up to harvest. Crafted from the house’s classic trio of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, and then matured for over a decade in Krug’s cellars, it reflects both the singular character of the year and the house’s unmistakable depth and precision.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows an intense, radiant golden hue. The bouquet is expressive and layered, opening with generous, patinated aromas of honey, licorice, menthol, orange peel, and grapefruit, with subtle floral nuances and a refined touch of maturity.
On the palate, the wine is lively, intense, and beautifully harmonious, with a firm sense of tension that gives shape to its rich fruit profile. Notes of quince, candied fruit, citrus, yellow kiwi, star fruit, honey, apple tart, butter cookies, orange zest, peony, and fennel unfold לאורך the palate, supported by a long, balanced finish. This is a Champagne with excellent aging potential, though it is already highly expressive today.
Viininvalmistus
2011 was a paradoxical year in Champagne, beginning with an unusually early summer, followed by rain and cooler conditions, and ending with a sudden burst of heat before harvest. Krug harvested between August 25 and September 3, selecting grapes with remarkably even ripeness; the Pinot Noir brought balance and structure, the Meunier retained freshness and elegance, and the Chardonnays offered a rounder, more generous profile than usual. As with all Krug Vintage wines, this cuvée is built from the most expressive wines of a single year and then aged for more than ten years in the house’s cellars before release.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb Champagne for refined dishes such as lobster, scallops, roast poultry, truffle risotto, or aged Comté and Parmesan. It can also stand up beautifully to richer preparations with creamy sauces or lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short rest in the glass can help the wine reveal its full aromatic breadth.
