Kumeu River Village Chardonnay 2024 is one of those wines that overdelivers from the very first sip: precise, mineral, and beautifully fresh, with the sort of balance that makes you think of fine Chablis. As Kumeu River’s entry-level Chardonnay, it still carries the house signature of purity and understated complexity, making it a standout value in New Zealand white wine.

Makuprofiili
Pale straw in the glass, it opens with a lifted, expressive nose of lime, citrus blossom, and flinty mineral notes, backed by hints of white peach and ripe fig. On the palate, it’s vibrant and focused, with clean citrus-driven fruit, a fine chalky texture, and a subtle richness from barrel fermentation that never feels heavy. The finish is long, fresh, and distinctly stony, with enough depth to suggest it will develop gracefully over the next few years while remaining highly enjoyable young.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes for this Chardonnay come from Kumeu and Hawke’s Bay, two areas that bring both freshness and ripe fruit character to the blend. Fermentation takes place predominantly in old French oak barrels, with a smaller portion fermented in stainless steel, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity without overt oak influence. Careful grape selection and restrained winemaking preserve the wine’s lively fruit, mineral edge, and elegant structure.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay is an excellent match for grilled or pan-seared fish, shellfish, roast chicken, creamy pasta, and dishes with citrus or herb accents. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and there’s no need to decant unless you want to give it a little time in the glass to open up.
