La Mission Haut-Brion 1990 is one of Bordeaux’s great mature reds: a powerful, opulent wine from an exceptional vintage that has remained remarkably vital with age. Known for its unmistakable La Mission character—smoke, scorched earth, dark fruit and exotic spice—it combines depth, finesse and extraordinary pedigree in a way that has made it a benchmark for collectors and fine-wine lovers alike.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a slightly more evolved color than the 1989, with a lighter rim and a refined mature hue. The bouquet is classic La Mission Haut-Brion, opening with camphor, licorice, hot bricks, barbecue notes, cassis, blueberry and kirsch, followed by touches of black olive, warm gravel and autumnal woodland.
On the palate, it is broad, velvety and expansive, with a lush, open-knit texture and impressive balance. There is plenty of weight and concentration, but the wine remains graceful and composed, finishing with remarkable persistence. While already in a beautiful drinking window, the 1990 still has the structure to hold in a cold cellar for years, and may continue to evolve positively over the medium term.
Viininvalmistus
Château La Mission Haut-Brion is located in Bordeaux’s Pessac-Léognan appellation, where gravelly soils and a warm Graves terroir contribute to the estate’s distinctive smoky, mineral-laced profile. The grapes are hand-harvested in the cool hours before dawn to preserve freshness and limit oxidation, then undergo rigorous selection both in the vineyard and the cellar before vinification.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine made for rich, deeply flavored dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, game, duck breast, truffle-based dishes or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, especially if the bottle has been stored for a long time, to allow the wine to fully open and separate any sediment.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion has roots dating back to the 16th century, with its modern era shaped by major changes in ownership and vineyard renewal throughout the 20th century. After the Dillon family acquired the estate in 1983, significant replanting and cellar investment followed, helping to elevate the château even further. Today it is regarded as one of Bordeaux’s most esteemed properties, and it was included as a Premier Cru in the revised Bordeaux classification created by Liv-ex in 2009.
