La Mission Haut-Brion 1998 is a superbly composed Bordeaux from one of the most revered names in Graves. Built around Cabernet Franc with the estate’s hallmark depth and precision, it offers striking complexity, remarkable purity, and the kind of age-worthy structure that has made La Mission one of the most sought-after wines in the region.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, opaque purple hue with barely any sign of fading at the rim. The nose is intense and layered, opening with black cherries, blackberries, cassis, cedar, cigar box, graphite, truffle, incense, and a subtle earthy, smoky note that adds real depth. The palate is full-bodied yet refined, with sweet, ripe tannins, excellent acidity, and a beautifully textured, almost seamless mouthfeel. There is impressive tension and clarity through the finish, which lingers with mineral notes, dark fruit, and a savory, almost saline edge. While already compelling, this is a wine with tremendous aging potential and should continue to evolve gracefully for years to come.

Viininvalmistus
Château La Mission Haut-Brion sits in the Graves appellation of Bordeaux, where its gravel-rich soils and carefully managed vineyard parcels provide ideal conditions for producing structured, expressive wines. The estate’s red vineyards are planted mainly with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, and the fruit is harvested by hand in the cool pre-dawn hours to preserve freshness and acidity. Only the best grapes are selected in both vineyard and cellar before vinification, reflecting the estate’s uncompromising approach to quality.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef Wellington, game birds, venison, or mushroom-based dishes that echo its earthy complexity. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, especially if opening young or if you want the aromatics to fully unfold, though an older bottle may only need a gentle decant shortly before serving.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion has roots dating back to the 16th century and has long been one of Bordeaux’s most distinguished estates. Its modern era began in 1919 under the Woltners family, before passing in 1983 to Clarence Dillon, owner of neighboring Château Haut-Brion. The estate was extensively replanted and later given a new cellar, completed in 1987, with further renovations in 2007. In 2009, La Mission Haut-Brion was elevated to Premier Cru status in the Liv-Ex reclassification of Bordeaux, a fitting recognition for a wine that Robert Parker has described as one of the greatest and most consistently brilliant in the world.
