La Spinetta Barbera d’Asti Superiore Bionzo 2018 is a vivid expression of Piedmont, offering the depth and structure that have made Barbera one of the region’s most compelling red grapes. Sourced from the renowned Bionzo vineyard, this is a wine shaped by place first and foremost — in keeping with La Spinetta’s philosophy that the vineyard should speak more clearly than the winemaker.

In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color with youthful brightness at the rim. The nose is likely to be generous and layered, with ripe dark cherry, blackberry, plum, violets, sweet spice, and subtle earthy notes, supported by the freshness Barbera is known for. On the palate, expect juicy fruit, lively acidity, and a supple but serious structure, giving the wine both energy and depth. Barbera d’Asti Superiore from a site like Bionzo often has impressive concentration and a long, polished finish, with aging potential that can reward several years in bottle as the fruit softens and the savory complexity grows.

Bionzo is a prized vineyard site in Piedmont, where the combination of hillside exposure, mineral-rich soils, and the continental climate of the region helps Barbera achieve both ripeness and balance. Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with rich Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef, roasted lamb, game, mushroom risotto, and pasta with slow-cooked meat sauces. It is also an excellent match for aged cheeses and savory charcuterie. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if enjoying it young to help the aromatics open up.
