Lafite Rothschild 2003 in double magnum format is a rare and highly collectible expression from one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates. Produced in the heat of the 2003 vintage, it stands out for its remarkable concentration, plush texture, and the grand scale that only a large-format bottle can bring to aging and serving.

In the glass, this wine shows a deep, dense purple colour, hinting at its richness and depth. The bouquet is classic Lafite at heart, with graphite, cassis, smoke, melted licorice, and floral nuances layered over a ripe, opulent core. On the palate, it is powerful yet refined, with impressive purity, viscosity, and a softer, sweeter expression than many traditional Lafite vintages. The tannins are abundant and structured, suggesting substantial longevity; while already seductive, this is a wine built to evolve beautifully over decades. The double magnum format will further support its slow, graceful development.

Viininvalmistus
The wine comes from Château Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac, in the Médoc on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravel-rich soils help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve its hallmark finesse and structure. The estate follows meticulous traditional vineyard practices, including strict yield control and manual harvesting, with careful attention paid throughout the year to preserve vine health and fruit quality. In 2003, the vintage was marked by intense heat and very low yields, and the Grand Vin was assembled from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with supporting Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, then matured to capture both the opulence of the year and Lafite’s signature elegance.

Best served with classic dishes that can match its depth and structure, such as beef tenderloin, lamb, venison, roast duck, or truffle-infused cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for a few hours if opening young, although older bottles should be handled more conservatively to preserve their aromatic nuance.
