Lafite Rothschild 2016

Château Lafite Rothschild 2016 is one of Bordeaux’s great benchmark wines, drawn from one of the most prestigious estates in the world. This Cabernet Sauvignon-led grand vin combines power with the trademark Lafite refinement, showing remarkable depth, precision, and age-worthiness. Classified as a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, it carries centuries of history and a reputation few wines can match.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is deeply colored and polished, with the sort of restrained intensity that signals both concentration and finesse. The nose opens with blackcurrant, cedar, graphite, tobacco, incense, and hints of wet earth, layered over a subtle toasted oak backdrop. On the palate, it is full-bodied, structured, and beautifully composed, with ripe dark fruit wrapped in firm but impeccably integrated tannins. The finish is long, precise, and lingering, showing the classic elegance of Lafite with added muscle in this vintage. While already impressive, it is built for the long haul and should continue to develop for decades, with potential for 50 years or more in a great cellar.

Viininvalmistus
The wine comes from Château Lafite Rothschild’s vineyards in Pauillac, in the gravel-rich heart of Bordeaux’s Médoc, where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives on well-drained soils and benefits from the estate’s exceptional exposure and old vines. Harvesting is carried out by hand, with strict selection to ensure only the finest fruit reaches the grand vin, and the estate follows low-intervention, traditional viticulture with careful work in the vineyards throughout the year. Vinification is carried out with precision, and the wine is aged in new oak barrels to enhance structure and complexity without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that deserves classic, richly flavored dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, ribeye, game birds, or truffle-infused dishes. It also pairs beautifully with hard, aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant several hours in advance if drinking young, as the wine benefits from air to open its full aromatic range and soften its formidable structure.
