In the glass, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape shows the dark, concentrated color expected of a serious southern Rhône red. The nose is layered and inviting, with pebbly garrigue, blackberries, peppery herbs, smoked meat, and a subtle sandalwood note that adds complexity and charm. On the palate, it is full-bodied and highly concentrated, yet beautifully composed and refined. Ripe tannins, impressive freshness, and remarkable purity give the wine both power and elegance, finishing long and persistent. While already impressive, it will benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring and can develop gracefully for two decades or more.

Viininvalmistus
Le Vieux Donjon sources this wine from old vines averaging over 80 years of age, a major factor behind its concentration and intensity. The blend is dominated by Grenache, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, reflecting a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape approach. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks, followed by 18-24 months of aging in neutral foudres to preserve the wine’s fruit, structure, and sense of place.

This wine is a natural match for roast lamb, beef short ribs, game, duck, and richly flavored Mediterranean dishes such as herb-crusted vegetables or ratatouille. Serve at around 16-18°C and consider decanting for one to two hours, especially if opening it in its youth, to allow the aromas and structure to fully unfold.
