Liger-Belair’s Nuits-St-Georges Les Cras 1er Cru 2008 is a striking expression of old-vine Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines. Drawn from poor soils and vines over 90 years old, it offers remarkable concentration, mineral drive, and a distinctly serious, site-driven character. In the glass, it shows a deeper hue than the domaine’s Vosne-Romanée wines, hinting at the depth to come. The nose is layered with black raspberry, elderberry, peat-like smokiness, crushed stone, and a subtle meaty edge that adds complexity and intrigue. The palate is sappy and focused, with vibrant berry fruit wrapped in fine tannins and a clear chalky, saline mineral line. There is impressive intensity without heaviness, and the finish is long, mouth-watering, and marked by berry fruit, chalk, and a touch of raw savory detail. While already expressive, this wine has the structure and concentration to age beautifully for 12–15 years or more.

Viininvalmistus
Les Cras is a premier cru vineyard in Nuits-St-Georges known for its poor soils and naturally low yields, which help produce wines of depth and concentration. The old vines here, many more than 90 years of age, deliver tiny berries and small bunches that give the wine its compact, finely textured structure. In 2008, the domaine focused carefully on sorting to exclude imperfect fruit, while biodynamic practices and deep horse-plowing were used on the estate’s top sites to encourage vine health and expression of terroir. Vinification at the domaine emphasized purity and balance, with only limited use of stems and whole clusters in this vintage to avoid any green character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with game birds, roast duck, quail, mushroom dishes, beef tenderloin, and rich preparations featuring earthy ingredients such as truffle or wild mushrooms. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening it young to allow the aromatics and texture to open fully.
