Lucien le Moine’s Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2017 is a finely etched Burgundy from one of the region’s most sought-after micro-négociant estates. Made from Pinot Noir and sourced from a prized Premier Cru site, it reflects the house’s uncompromising approach: small-scale, meticulous, and focused on terroir rather than volume. Since its founding in 1999, Lucien le Moine has earned a reputation for producing some of the most respected and collectable wines in Burgundy.
Makuprofiili
In the glass, this 2017 Pinot Noir is likely to show a deep ruby core with bright garnet highlights, reflecting both the vintage and the character of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The nose typically opens with layers of dark cherry, wild raspberry, blackberry, and crushed violets, followed by savoury notes of forest floor, spice, and subtle oak complexity.
On the palate, expect a wine with a firm but polished structure, showing the mineral drive and intensity associated with Les Vaucrains. The fruit is poised rather than flashy, with red and dark berry flavours framed by fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, savoury finish. Built for cellaring, this wine should develop greater depth, earthiness, and silkiness over time, rewarding patience over the next decade or more.
Viininvalmistus
Les Vaucrains is one of the more renowned Premier Cru sites in Nuits-Saint-Georges, known for its stony soils, excellent drainage, and an exposure that helps Pinot Noir achieve both ripeness and tension. Lucien le Moine works with a hands-on philosophy, selecting top parcels and harvesting with great care to preserve fruit purity and vineyard character. In the cellar, the wines are vinified in a traditional yet precise style, with ageing in French oak barrels—typically with a significant proportion of new oak—and bottled without filtration to retain texture and intensity.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for roast duck, pigeon, game birds, lamb with herbs, beef tenderloin, or wild mushroom dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses such as Comté or Époisses if you want to stay in a classic Burgundy frame of mind. Serve at 15–17°C, and decant for around 30–60 minutes if opening young; if well cellared, a gentler decant is usually enough.
Tuottaja
Lucien le Moine was founded in 1999 by Rotem and Mounir Saouma, whose shared passion for Burgundy led them to build one of the region’s most talked-about small producers. Based in Beaune, the estate is known for buying only top-tier 1er Cru and Grand Cru wines from carefully chosen growers, then finishing the élevage in its own cellar. Their insistence on precision, long lees ageing, manual bottling, and minimal intervention has made Lucien le Moine a benchmark name for concentrated, terroir-driven Burgundy.
