Masi Grandarella Refosco Trevenezie Millesime 2018 is a distinctive red from Veneto that showcases Masi Agricola’s mastery of the Appassimento technique outside its classic Valpolicella home. Crafted from grapes grown in the Grave area, it combines the concentration and richness of dried-grape winemaking with the fresh, naturally ventilated conditions of this region, creating a wine with depth, character, and a clear sense of place.

In the glass, Grandarella typically shows a deep ruby color with inviting purple reflections, hinting at its concentration and youthful energy. The nose is expressive and layered, often delivering dark berry fruit, dried plum, spice, and subtle earthy notes, along with the savory complexity that comes from appassimento-style drying. On the palate, it is structured and generous, with ripe black fruit, a fleshy mid-palate, and the gentle grip of Refosco’s natural tannins. The style tends to balance richness with freshness, making it both approachable now and capable of developing added nuance over several years of cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
Grandarella is produced in Veneto using grapes from the Grave zone, where good natural airflow helps support the appassimento process by drying the fruit in a healthy, controlled way. This traditional technique, long associated with Masi in the Valpolicella area, concentrates flavor and texture before vinification, resulting in a wine with greater intensity, fullness, and aromatic complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with braised beef, roasted game, grilled lamb, and rich mushroom dishes, as well as aged cheeses and savory tomato-based pasta. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30 to 60 minutes if you want to bring out its aromas and soften the structure.
