Masseto 2012

Masseto 2012 is a striking expression of Tuscan Merlot from one of Italy’s most iconic single vineyards. Born in Bolgheri and shaped by a warm, dry growing season with carefully timed late-summer rains, it offers a rare balance of power, elegance, and precision. As one of the wines that helped define the modern cult status of Italian fine wine, Masseto remains a benchmark for terroir-driven Merlot.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Masseto 2012 shows impressive depth and concentration, with a dark, polished ruby appearance. The bouquet is layered and expressive, moving from ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum into notes of cocoa, liquorice, spice, and a subtle touch of toasted oak. On the palate, it is dense yet remarkably silky, with ripe fruit wrapped around lively acidity and finely woven tannins. The texture is creamy and concentrated, but never heavy, and the finish is long, fresh, and mineral in feel. While already beautifully open, this vintage has the structure and balance to age gracefully for many years.

Viininvalmistus
Masseto comes from a prized blue-clay site in Bolgheri, where the soils and coastal Tuscan climate create ideal conditions for Merlot of exceptional depth and finesse. The 2012 vintage was harvested by hand over an extended period from 29 August to 17 September, allowing for careful selection parcel by parcel and optimal ripeness. In the cellar, each plot was vinified separately to preserve the nuance of the terroir, then the wine was matured for 24 months in new French barriques followed by 12 months in bottle.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine best served with rich, flavourful dishes such as roast beef, lamb, venison, truffle pasta, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C to allow the aromas and structure to show at their best. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young, as it will help the wine open and reveal its full aromatic complexity.
