Ojai Vineyard Syrah Roll Ranch 2012 is a richly textured Central Coast Syrah that shows both power and finesse. With a small addition of Viognier for lift and complexity, plus 16 months in French oak, it delivers a vivid expression of California Syrah with a polished, age-worthy style that reflects Adam Tolmach’s long pursuit of balance and terroir.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is an intense, deeply colored Syrah with a generous, almost opulent feel. Aromas and flavors move from dark cherry, plum and ripe apricot into richer notes of sweet cassis, blackberry, chocolate, mulled spice and a hint of underbrush, while the palate finishes with mocha, allspice and sage. Despite its ripe fruit, the wine keeps a firm, structured edge and a polished tannin profile. It is drinking beautifully now, but has the harmony and concentration to develop over the next decade.

Viininvalmistus
The Roll Ranch fruit comes from a cool-climate site in Santa Barbara County, a setting Adam Tolmach seeks out for its ability to preserve freshness, balance and terroir expression. The blend is primarily Syrah with 2% Viognier, and the wine was aged for 16 months in French oak, including 13% new barrels. Tolmach’s approach favors earlier harvesting to retain tension and avoid overripeness, with careful cellar handling aimed at purity, minimal sulfur use and no filtration.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Syrah pairs well with grilled lamb, slow-roasted beef, duck, venison, mushroom dishes and Mediterranean-style fare with herbs such as rosemary and sage. Serve it at around 16–18°C. A short decant, about 30–60 minutes, is recommended to let the wine open up and show its full aromatic range.

Ojai Vineyard was founded by Adam Tolmach, who studied at UC Davis and began building his reputation in Santa Barbara County in the 1970s and 1980s. After co-founding Au Bon Climat, he returned to Ojai to work with vineyards he had planted there, making his first Ojai wines in 1983. Over the decades, Tolmach has become known for cool-climate farming, an exacting focus on quality, and a gradual move toward organic practices and lower new oak, helping establish Ojai Vineyard as one of the region’s most respected producers.
