Ovid Napa Valley 2017

Ovid Napa Valley 2017 is the flagship wine from one of Napa’s most sought-after cult estates, crafted by winemaker Austin Peterson from fruit grown on the estate vineyards of Pritchard Hill. Although the blend changes from vintage to vintage, this release is built around Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, giving it the depth, structure, and unmistakable character of a top-tier Napa Valley red with a nod to classic Bordeaux.

Makuprofiili
The wine pours with an almost ink-like depth of color and immediately signals concentration and intensity. Aromatically, it opens with layers of black cherry, red cherry, cassis, cinnamon, lilies, pepper, sage, and touches of lavender, mint, espresso, and dried flowers. On the palate, it is rich and muscular yet remarkably polished, with ripe dark fruit wrapped in a velvety texture and lifted by fresh acidity and spice. The finish is long, energetic, and beautifully persistent, with the structure to age gracefully for 20 years or more, gaining nuance and complexity over time.

Viininvalmistus
Ovid is located high on Pritchard Hill in Napa Valley, a prized hillside terroir known for its rocky soils, elevated exposure, and naturally low yields, which contribute to the wine’s concentration and freshness. The estate follows leading organic farming principles and is run using solar energy, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 22 months in French oak barrels, about half of them new, helping to frame the wine with spice, polish, and subtle oak complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roast lamb, venison, or rich mushroom dishes with truffle and herbs. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, as the wine benefits from air and opens beautifully in the glass.
