Petrus 2004 is one of the great names of Bordeaux and a true icon of Pomerol, prized for its rarity, precision, and unmistakable sense of luxury. Made entirely from Merlot and produced in extremely small quantities, it stands apart from the Left Bank’s famous classified growths with a more intimate, velvet-textured style that has made Petrus a lifelong bucket-list wine for collectors and enthusiasts alike. The estate’s cult status was built in the second half of the 20th century, but its legend continues to grow with each exceptional vintage.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Petrus 2004 shows a deep medium-red color with remarkable clarity. The nose is subtly layered, offering mulberry, red cherry, toffee, caramel, iron, flowers, and a quiet mineral edge, with spice emerging as the wine opens up. On the palate, it begins with a slightly restrained entry before widening beautifully across the mid-palate, where its focus, energy, and structure come into full view. The wine is vibrant, classy, and finely built, with a tight mineral core, aromatic persistence, and a refined finish that hints at further evolution toward truffle, toffee, and greater complexity over time. This is a vintage with excellent aging potential, especially for those willing to be patient.

Viininvalmistus
Petrus comes from Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where the estate’s clay-rich terroir is perfectly suited to Merlot, helping produce wines of depth, perfume, and silken texture. The vineyards are worked with exceptional attention to detail, and the fruit is typically harvested by hand to preserve purity and precision. Vinification at Petrus is geared toward expressing the character of the site and the vintage rather than overt winemaking influence, resulting in a wine of remarkable concentration, balance, and finesse.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Petrus 2004 deserves refined dishes that complement its richness without overwhelming its elegance, such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or truffle-scented dishes. It also pairs beautifully with more elaborate mushroom-based preparations and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended in advance to allow the wine’s aromatics and layered structure to fully unfold.
