R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva 2012 is a benchmark Rioja from one of Spain’s most respected traditional producers. Crafted from a classic blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and a touch of Graciano, it stands out for its unusually long aging and timeless style—an approach that has helped make Viña Tondonia one of the most iconic names in the region.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Reserva typically shows a mature garnet-red hue with subtle brick-toned reflections, a sign of its extended time in oak and bottle. The nose is layered and refined, offering ripe red and dark fruit, dried herbs, spice, vanilla, cedar, and a faint earthy note that adds depth and complexity. On the palate, it is elegant and well-structured, with integrated tannins, bright acidity, and a beautifully balanced profile that moves from fruit into savory, lightly oxidative nuances. The long oak aging gives it remarkable harmony and a distinctive traditional Rioja character. While already enjoyable, it has excellent aging potential and can develop even greater complexity over the coming years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from vineyards around Viña Tondonia in Rioja Alta, an area prized for its cooler climate and limestone-rich soils that help preserve freshness and structure in the wines. Harvesting is carried out with a focus on quality selection, and the wine is vinified in the classic López de Heredia style, with a traditional, patient approach that avoids modern shortcuts. It is then aged for six years in oak barrels, far longer than most Rioja Reservas, which gives the wine its signature depth, polish, and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for roasted lamb, grilled beef, game, mushroom-based dishes, and aged Manchego or other firm cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C for the best expression, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking it young, although older bottles may benefit from a gentler approach and a careful pour.
