Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2018 Magnum is often described as the younger sibling to the legendary Monte Bello, crafted from the same prized Monte Bello vineyard but sourced from younger vines. Built around Cabernet Sauvignon and complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it offers impressive depth, elegance, and earlier approachability than its iconic counterpart. This is a serious California Cabernet with a clear sense of place and a pedigree rooted in one of the state’s great mountain estates.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark color with a purple hue. The nose opens with expressive aromas of blueberry, cassis, licorice, cola, and a gentle, sweet oak note. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, delivering ripe blackberry, cherry, freshly roasted coffee beans, pencil lead, and sweet tobacco, all framed by polished structure and remarkable finesse. Despite its power, the wine remains beautifully composed and elegant, with enough freshness and structure to develop further with time in bottle. While already highly enjoyable, the 2018 Estate Magnum has the balance and concentration to age gracefully over the coming years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a historic high-altitude site known for producing some of California’s most distinctive Cabernet-based wines. Ridge harvests and vinifies the fruit with a focus on preserving purity and structure: all clusters are destemmed before pressing, and after fermentation the wine is matured for 20 months in American oak, with just over half of the barrels new. The result is a wine that reflects both the character of the vineyard and Ridge’s restrained, precise winemaking style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Cabernet pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, venison, slow-braised short ribs, or hearty mushroom dishes. It also works well with aged cheddar or other firm, mature cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromatics and texture to open up.
