Ridge Vineyards Chardonnay Estate Santa Cruz Mountains 2021 is a beautifully composed California Chardonnay that offers an elegant glimpse into the character of Ridge’s celebrated Monte Bello site. Sourced from the same vineyard and crafted with the same meticulous approach as the estate’s top Chardonnay, it stands out for its balance of richness, freshness, and fine oak detail, with fruit coming from younger vines that make it a more accessible expression of this iconic terroir.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a bright straw-yellow color that hints at both vibrancy and depth. The nose opens with inviting layers of citrus, pineapple, melon, honeysuckle, and vanilla, giving the wine a classic yet refined California profile. On the palate, this is a full-bodied Chardonnay with plenty of freshness to keep it lively and precise. Flavors of citrus, apple, and pear are complemented by subtle notes of crushed stone and vanilla on the finish, adding texture and complexity. While enjoyable now, it should also develop nicely over the next few years, gaining additional nuance and integration with bottle age.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from the Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a high-elevation site known for its cool climate, rocky soils, and excellent natural structure in the wines. The fruit is hand-harvested, and winemaker Eric Baugher presses the whole clusters without destemming, a gentle approach that helps preserve freshness and purity. After fermentation, the wine matures for 14 months in American oak barrels, 10% of them new, adding subtle spice and creamy texture without overpowering the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay is an excellent match for roast chicken, grilled salmon, lobster, creamy pasta dishes, and rich seafood such as scallops or crab. It also pairs well with mushroom risotto and mild hard cheeses. Serve it chilled at around 10-12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short time in the glass can help the wine open up beautifully.
