Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2018 37,5CL

Ridge Monte Bello is one of California’s true benchmark reds, a wine that has earned its legendary status vintage after vintage. First produced in 1962, it comes from the historic Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where winegrowing dates back to 1886, and it delivers the kind of finesse, depth, and longevity that serious collectors look for.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this 2018 Monte Bello shows a dark ruby hue, hinting at its concentration and youthful energy. The nose is complex and beautifully layered, with ripe plum, blackberry, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and subtle oak spice. On the palate, it is powerful yet remarkably poised, with dark fruit at the core and a seamless integration of savory, mineral, and toasted notes from élevage in new oak. Despite its richness, the wine retains an elegant, restrained profile, and its structure suggests a long life ahead. It is still very young, but already unmistakably special.

Viininvalmistus
Monte Bello Vineyard sits high in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the cooler mountain climate and rugged terrain help shape a wine of freshness, precision, and tension. The wine is crafted as a Bordeaux-style blend, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc contributing depth and complexity. It is aged for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, a choice that adds polish and nuance while preserving the wine’s natural balance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a superb match for premium beef, lamb, venison, roasted mushrooms, or rich dishes with earthy and savory elements. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young, as this will help the wine open up and reveal its full aromatic range.
