Ridge Monte Bello is one of California’s truly iconic red wines, admired by collectors and enthusiasts alike for its remarkable balance, elegance, and longevity. First released in 1962, it builds on a much longer winemaking history at Monte Bello Vineyards, where vines have been cultivated in the Santa Cruz Mountains since 1886. This 2019 vintage continues that legacy with a Bordeaux-inspired blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, showing the restraint and precision that have made Monte Bello a benchmark wine for decades.

In the glass, Monte Bello 2019 shows a deep dark ruby color, hinting at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of ripe plums, blackberries, espresso, black truffle, anise, crushed stone, and subtle oak spice. On the palate, it is powerful and full-bodied, yet composed and beautifully balanced. The dark fruit core is supported by savory, earthy nuances and fine oak-derived complexity, while the alcohol remains impressively restrained at 13.7%. Still very youthful, this is a wine with serious aging potential and the structure to evolve gracefully over many years.

Monte Bello comes from the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the cool climate and elevated vineyard sites help preserve freshness, structure, and aromatic precision. The wine is crafted from a Bordeaux-style blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc contributing depth and finesse. It is aged for 17 months in 100% new, air-dried oak barrels, a traditional approach that adds texture, spice, and complexity while supporting the wine’s impressive framework.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb shoulder, venison, roast duck, or mushroom-based cuisine. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and dishes featuring truffle or black pepper. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open fully.
