Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Chardonnay 2020 is a rare, high-altitude California Chardonnay that combines richness and power with impressive poise. Sourced from the Rousten Ranch parcel at over 600 meters above sea level, it benefits from cool nights and naturally balanced acidity—an especially important advantage in a hot, dry vintage. Rooted in one of California’s most historic and celebrated estates, it reflects Ridge’s long-standing commitment to terroir-driven winemaking.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a deep, luminous golden hue, hinting at its concentration and depth. The nose opens with layered aromas of yellow orchard fruit, preserved lemon, toasted almonds, and a subtle stony mineral edge, all framed by a spicy, sun-kissed richness. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and textured, with impressive extract and density that give it a satisfyingly broad, almost tactile feel. Ripe yellow fruit and citrus preserve notes are balanced by a clear mineral thread, while the acidity provides just enough lift to keep the wine harmonious rather than heavy. This is a Chardonnay with real aging potential and should develop beautifully over several years in bottle, gaining complexity and nuance.

The Monte Bello estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains is defined by steep slopes, varied elevations, and a cool mountain climate that helps preserve freshness even in warm vintages. For the 2020 Chardonnay, Ridge selected fruit from the Rousten Ranch parcel, located at over 600 meters, where the altitude brings cooler nights and supports natural acidity. Harvesting was timed carefully to capture balance in a challenging vintage, and the wine was vinified with Ridge’s characteristic restrained, terroir-focused approach so the site could speak clearly in the finished wine.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs well with richer seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, or roast halibut, as well as roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, and mushroom risotto. It also works nicely with dishes that include butter, citrus, or toasted nuts. Serve slightly chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short airing in the glass can help reveal its layered aromas.
